How copy-and-paste text styles work

Every style on this page is a run of ordinary Unicode characters that resemble bold, script or boxed letters. The look is stored in the characters themselves, so it survives copy and paste, but each app and device still decides how to draw them.

Characters, not fonts

A font changes how the letter A (U+0041) is drawn. A text style replaces it with a different character, such as 𝐀 (U+1D400) or 𝔄 (U+1D504). Most of these alphabets come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which Unicode encoded so that a bold variable can be told apart from a script or double-struck one in plain text. The rest are borrowed from blocks built for other jobs: fullwidth forms for East Asian typesetting, enclosed letters for list markers, phonetic letters for small capitals.

None of these blocks includes accented letters, so é or ñ have no styled form and stay plain.

Where a style holds up

Free-text fields such as profile names, bios, captions, messages and posts generally keep these characters. Fields that act as an address do not: an @username, an email address or a URL is limited to plain letters, digits and a few punctuation marks. Some services also normalise the text they store, which can turn a styled letter back into a plain one. When unsure, paste it and see whether the field keeps it.

If the reader's device has no glyph for a character, it shows an empty box or a question mark. That happens most with the newer blocks, such as squared letters, on older phones.

Readability and accessibility

Screen readers may announce each styled character by its full Unicode name, spell the word letter by letter, or skip it. Search usually does not match styled letters to plain ones. Keep anything people must find, read aloud or type (a handle, contact details, a call to action) in plain letters, and limit styling to a short name or a single line.

Where Result Notes
Instagram name and bio Works Both are free-text fields. Verified profile names can be held to stricter rules.
Instagram username No The @username accepts only plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
TikTok nickname and bio Works The nickname takes Unicode; the @username under it stays plain.
Discord display name and server nickname Works The unique username is restricted to plain characters, and moderators can reset a nickname.
WhatsApp message Works Sent as ordinary text. The recipient's phone needs a font that covers the characters.
Game nickname (Free Fire, BGMI) Partly Each game decides which characters a name may contain and may count a styled letter as more than one.
Email address or web address No Addresses must be typed exactly, so styled letters either fail or point somewhere else.

More questions

What are these font styles actually called?
Unicode names them by their mathematical style: bold, italic, script, Fraktur, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace. Fullwidth, circled and squared letters have their own blocks. Searching for one of those names finds the same characters in any character picker.
Are there different styles for boys and girls?
No. The characters are the same for everyone, so choose by how the name reads. Bold, sans bold, Fraktur and small caps look heavier, while script and circled letters look softer.
Why do one or two letters in a styled word look different from the rest?
A few letters of the script, Fraktur and double-struck alphabets, such as ℂ and ℝ, were encoded earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block. A device may draw them from a different font than their neighbours.
Does styled text use up a character limit faster?
It can. Characters from the mathematical alphabets are stored as two units in UTF-16, and some apps count units rather than visible letters. Check the counter in the app after pasting.

What Makes Our Font Generator Different?

Most people assume that the stylish fonts they see on Instagram or in game lobbies are created using special apps or premium software. The truth is simpler: those beautiful letter styles are Unicode characters—a universal standard built into every device, browser, and app on the planet.

Standard fonts, like Arial or Times New Roman, are installed files on your computer. When you type in a standard font and paste it elsewhere, the receiving app shows its own default font instead. That's why simply using "bold" in Word doesn't work when you paste into Instagram.

Unicode-based symbols, on the other hand, are actual characters—just like the letter "A" or the number "1." When you use our font generator to convert "Hello" into "ℋℯ𝓁𝓁ℴ," you're not changing the font; you're replacing each letter with a different Unicode character that happens to look like a script letter. See why fancy text is not actually a font for a code-point-level explanation of what that substitution changes.

Perfect for Gamers, Influencers, and Creators

Our tools are designed for real-world use. Gamers searching for a ғʀᴇᴇ ғɪʀᴇ sᴛʏʟɪsʜ ɴᴀᴍᴇ can generate bold, intimidating usernames with Fraktur, double-struck, or decorated styles. Why Unicode Text Works Everywhere

The Unicode Consortium maintains a catalog of over 150,000 characters, including mathematical symbols, ancient scripts, and decorative letters. When you use our font generator, you're tapping into this library. Because Unicode is a global standard, these characters render correctly on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and most major apps and browsers. A rare symbol can still show as an empty box on an older device.

Unlike image-based solutions that can break or appear pixelated, Unicode text scales perfectly and stays real text you can copy, paste, and edit. Screen readers and search can struggle with styled letters, so keep anything people must read or find in plain text.
